In just over a week, Liverpool manager Arne Slot will have another opportunity to strengthen his squad as the January transfer window opens. Despite a modest summer of transfers, Slot has guided the Reds to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings, as well as a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. However, with the January window fast approaching, Slot will be keen to reinforce his squad for the second half of the season.
While Liverpool made several key signings earlier this year, including Federico Chiesa, Giorgi Mamardashvili (who remains on loan at Valencia), and Martin Zubimendi, who opted to stay at Real Sociedad, much of the team’s success this season has come from players already at the club when Slot was appointed. However, with several key players set to enter the final six months of their contracts, Liverpool will look to secure new deals or seek reinforcements during the upcoming window.
No Deadline for Van Dijk’s New Deal
Virgil van Dijk is one of the key players whose contract runs out at the end of the season. The Dutch defender will be free to negotiate with other clubs starting in January, but he has insisted that there is no urgency to agree to a new deal. Alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also set to expire, Liverpool is eager to tie down these vital players for the long term.
Van Dijk stays calm about the situation and focuses on maintaining Liverpool’s strong position at the top of the Premier League. “There is no deadline at all,” he said. “I’ll see what the future holds. For now, I focus fully on Leicester.”

Liverpool Confirmed to Have Made Offer for Ricardo Pepi
According to Goal, Liverpool has made an offer for PSV Eindhoven forward Ricardo Pepi, who has been in superb form this season. The 21-year-old American has scored 10 league goals in just 636 minutes of action, attracting interest from top European clubs. Liverpool is reportedly one of the suitors, with an offer of £16.6 million already confirmed.
However, PSV expects to hold out for a larger sum before considering any transfer. Pepi, who has a contract with the Dutch club until 2028, is likely to be a hot commodity in January.
Interest in Rayan Cherki, But No Talks Yet
Liverpool reportedly shows interest in Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, although neither the player nor the club has entered formal negotiations. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Reds are waiting for greater consistency in Cherki’s performances before making any investment.
Lyon’s financial difficulties have kept Cherki’s future uncertain, and while Paris Saint-Germain has ruled out a move for the player in January, interest from other top clubs remains strong. Cherki has impressed this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 18 appearances, with six of those contributions coming in the Europa League.
As the January transfer window nears, it’s clear that Liverpool will be active in the market, looking to bolster their squad for a strong second half of the season.
