Manchester United is eyeing Everton’s 21-year-old defender, Jarrad Branthwaite, as a top transfer target for the upcoming summer window, with the club’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, leading the pursuit.
Ratcliffe, overseeing football operations at United, has initiated discussions on potential summer signings and has prioritized Branthwaite, who has caught the attention of United scouts and manager Erik ten Hag. Despite limited Premier League experience, with just 31 appearances for Everton, Branthwaite has impressed with his performances.
Even amid uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford following a disappointing second season, United remains committed to pursuing Branthwaite. Ratcliffe aims to invest in young, home-grown talents who can offer significant returns on the club’s investment, especially considering the stricter financial fair play regulations.

United is seeking to reinforce its central defense, particularly with Raphael Varane likely departing and Harry Maguire’s future uncertain. Branthwaite, signed by Everton from Carlisle in 2020 for £1m, has garnered attention from top clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid.
Although Everton secured Branthwaite’s services with a long-term contract extension until 2027 last October, financial challenges and potential Premier League points deductions could force the club to consider selling some of its prized assets.
While Everton values Branthwaite at £75m, United aims to negotiate a lower fee closer to £50m, considering his limited top-flight experience.
Branth-waite, who has represented England’s Under-21 team on six occasions, is also on the verge of a potential call-up to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad, with the announcement expected on Thursday.
