Manchester United has taken the unusual step of preparing a farewell gesture for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, even though the defender still has a year remaining on his contract.
Ahead of their final home match of the season against Newcastle United, the Red Devils have already begun to trim their squad, with several departures confirmed. Wan-Bissaka is expected to play his last game at Old Trafford as a United player, despite having 12 months left on his contract.
Reports suggest that the club has produced a farewell t-shirt for Wan-Bissaka, featuring an image of him with the Carabao Cup, as a symbolic gesture for his farewell to the home fans.
Since joining from Crystal Palace in 2019 on a five-year deal with an option for an additional year, Wan-Bissaka’s tenure at United has been underwhelming. United is reportedly willing to entertain offers for the defender, aiming to recoup a portion of the £45 million they spent to acquire him.
With Wan-Bissaka making 18 Premier League starts this season, United believes they can command a fee of around £20 million for his services. There are even rumors of a potential return to Crystal Palace for the full-back.
In addition to Wan-Bissaka, United has also confirmed the impending departures of other high-profile players. Raphael Varane, signed from Real Madrid three years ago, will leave the club when his contract expires this summer, while Anthony Martial, signed during Louis van Gaal’s tenure, will also seek new opportunities after an inconsistent spell at Old Trafford.
Despite the ongoing changes within the squad, manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that the final home game of the season does not mark his departure from the club. He emphasized that the team remains united, expressing gratitude for the support of the fans and indicating a desire to continue leading the team forward.
