Liverpool players have praised new manager Arne Slot for revitalizing the team’s defensive solidity since taking over from Jurgen Klopp this summer. The Dutchman, who succeeded Klopp after the latter’s successful tenure, has led Liverpool to three consecutive Premier League wins without conceding a goal, including a commanding 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United.
Slot’s seamless transition into the managerial role has left Liverpool level on points with Manchester City at top of table. Despite Klopp’s legacy of attacking football, Slot’s emphasis on defensive resilience has been warmly received by the squad. With several key players highlighting the newfound stability at the back.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been particularly vocal about the defensive improvements under Slot. Reflecting on the team’s performance after the victory at Old Trafford, the Brazilian shot-stopper said, “I still love Jurgen Klopp. I will love him for the rest of my life, he knows that. But the determination and quality of our new manager [Arne Slot] are evident. He demands the best from us, and everyone is working their socks off. This is our third clean sheet in a row, and it’s not just about the saves at the back—the entire team is working incredibly hard. This is the mentality that the manager wants us to have.”
Defender Andrew Robertson echoed Alisson’s sentiments, noting the contrast between Slot’s focus on defensive discipline and Klopp’s attacking style. “We look a bit more secure defensively,” Robertson said. “We had a lot more control in our game today. A 3-0 win at Manchester United is massive, and the clean sheet makes it even better. Clean sheets have always been crucial in winning titles, and that’s what we’ve seen with both City and ourselves in recent years. To start the season with three consecutive clean sheets is fantastic, and we want to keep that going.”

Robertson also acknowledged the collective effort that has contributed to Liverpool’s newfound defensive strength. “Alisson had too many shots to save last-season, but he’s been happier with protection in front of him so far. It’s about the whole unit working hard—the wingers, the midfield, and everyone at the back. The commitment from everyone is making a huge difference.”
With confidence high, Liverpool will look to continue their strong form after the international break, as they prepare to host Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The early signs suggest that Slot’s tactical adjustments are paying dividends, providing a solid foundation for the Reds’ ambitions this season.
