As Liverpool prepares for life after Jurgen Klopp, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim emerges as a leading candidate to take the helm at Anfield.
The 39-year-old Portuguese coach has garnered significant attention from Liverpool’s hierarchy, with reports indicating that discussions have progressed substantially in recent weeks. While speculation initially surrounded Xabi Alonso as a potential successor to Klopp, Amorim’s impressive tenure at Sporting CP has increasingly captured Liverpool’s interest.
Amorim’s managerial prowess came to the fore when he led Sporting to their first league title in nearly two decades during the 2020-2021 season. This season, Sporting’s continued success, highlighted by a crucial 2-1 victory over Benfica, has only reinforced Amorim’s credentials.

Following the pivotal win against Benfica, reports from Portugal suggested that talks between Liverpool and Amorim had taken place, with discussions reportedly advancing on Monday. Subsequent reports hinted at the formulation of a three-year contract for Amorim, under the new football structure led by Fenway Sports Group’s Michael Edwards and Liverpool’s director of football Richard Hughes.
Fresh reports from Germany have indicated that Amorim has agreed in principle to a three-year deal with Liverpool, although final terms with Sporting are yet to be finalized. Notably, Bayern Munich also expressed interest in Amorim as a potential replacement for Thomas Tuchel.
Amidst these developments, Amorim himself has refrained from providing assurances about his future at Sporting. When questioned about his commitment to the club beyond the current season, Amorim emphasized his dedication to winning titles and suggested that his future hinges on Sporting’s success.
As negotiations progress, Liverpool edges closer to securing Ruben Amorim as their next manager, potentially marking a significant transition for the club post-Klopp era.
