Kobbie Mainoo Dispels Height Myth During Euros Preview

Kobbie Mainoo, the 19-year-old Manchester United midfielder, has effectively quashed the internet myth about his height. Despite some online sources claiming he’s 5’7″, Mainoo proved otherwise during an appearance on the ‘Lions’ Den’ YouTube show alongside England colleague Cole Palmer.

Mainoo represents one of two Manchester United players in England’s Euro 2024 squad, alongside left-back Luke Shaw. Absent from the squad is Marcus Rashford.

During the show, presenter Josh Denzel brought up Mainoo’s height. Denzel, after conducting “endless hours of research,” noted that some sources listed Mainoo as 5’7″. However, Mainoo had previously claimed to be six feet tall.

“Because when I was searching the internet, it says your height is 5’7″, Kobbie, but I know you’ve been telling people you’re six foot,” Denzel said.

To settle the debate, Denzel brought out a tape measure, and with Palmer’s assistance, they measured Mainoo. Sure enough, he stood at 184 centimeters (a fraction above six feet) with shoes on.

Earlier in the broadcast, Mainoo and Palmer expressed their surprise at Gareth Southgate including them in the squad. Both players were uncapped last season but earned their spots after impressive performances. Mainoo reflected on Manchester United’s challenging season and his personal growth, saying. “I was just looking for the next game to try and get performances in. Then it got to the end of the season, and I was in the provisional squad, and I was buzzing. It was a nice surprise.”

Palmer shared similar sentiments about his unexpected call-up, emphasizing how focused he was on each game during his time at Chelsea.

England had mixed results in their warm-up games, securing a 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina but suffering a 1-0 defeat to Iceland. Palmer scored his first senior international goal from the penalty spot during these matches.

As England prepares to start their Euros campaign against Serbia on Sunday, both Mainoo and Palmer, who featured in the warm-up games, will be vying for a spot in the starting lineup.
