Jurgen Klopp and his wife, Ulla Sandrock, have left an indelible mark on the Merseyside community during their time in Liverpool.
After nine illustrious years as Liverpool’s manager, Klopp has departed Anfield, leaving behind a legacy that includes Premier League and Champions League triumphs. The German tactician plans to take a sabbatical before considering future roles, leaving fans wondering where he will go next.
Since arriving in 2015, Klopp has made Merseyside his home, often seen mingling with locals in small pubs, even helping quiz teams with their answers. Ulla, his wife, has also endeared herself to the community with her acts of kindness.
In April 2020, amid the global pandemic, Ulla distributed £1,000 worth of food vouchers to supermarket staff as a gesture of gratitude for their frontline work.
Discreetly, she handed out 20 separate £50 vouchers to staff at Waitrose in Formby, which management later distributed equally. Those close to Waitrose celebrated this act, with one staff member calling it “an incredible thing to do” and praising Ulla for her humility and generosity.
A Waitrose spokesperson expressed the team’s gratitude, highlighting the support and understanding shown by the community. Klopp and Ulla’s relationship dates back to their meeting at Oktoberfest in Munich, moving in together after just three days and marrying in 2005.
During a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Klopp humorously mentioned that Ulla wants him to learn cooking and attend dance lessons during his downtime. He quipped, “I said you don’t want me to have a break because if I do that I will start working after four weeks again!” Reflecting on his domestic skills, Klopp admitted he is “pretty useless in private life,” recalling his limited cooking experience during the Covid lockdown.
The couple has children from previous relationships, with Klopp sharing a son, Marc, with his ex-wife Sabine, and Ulla having a son named Dennis. Last year, they became grandparents when Dennis had a child, an experience Klopp cherishes deeply. “I already look like a grandad and now I am one, it’s cool,” he remarked, describing the joy of being a grandfather as “the most beautiful thing I have experienced in the last 30 years.”
As Klopp steps away from the spotlight, he is eager to spend more time with his growing family, particularly his newest grandchild, embracing this new chapter with the same enthusiasm he brought to the pitch.
