Jurgen Klopp has made a heartfelt appeal to both Liverpool and Manchester United supporters. Urging them to exhibit respect and class ahead of their highly anticipated clash at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In light of recent incidents where fans from both sides engaged in insensitive chanting regarding tragic events such as the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and the 1958 Munich air crash, Klopp emphasized the importance of showing empathy and understanding.
Speaking at an event organized by the clubs’ Foundations, former Liverpool captain. Phil Thompson and United legend Wes Brown addressed schoolchildren from Merseyside and Manchester alongside Klopp. The Liverpool boss stressed the significance of educating youngsters about respect and urged fans to refrain from engaging in derogatory chants.
“It’s just helpful that we educate our kids in specific things – respect, understanding, all these kinds of things,” Klopp remarked. “Let’s just show a bit of class in these moments, so don’t sing this or that, just show class.”
Klopp also dismissed suggestions that Liverpool have an easier run-in compared to their rivals Arsenal and Manchester City in the title race. Emphasizing the competitive nature of the league, Klopp emphasized Liverpool’s readiness to face any challenges that lie ahead.

“I really don’t know how you can have that idea,” Klopp stated regarding the perceived easier schedule. “It’s a tough one, but we’re ready. We want to be in that fight so let’s see what we can make of it.”
Reflecting on Liverpool’s recent performances and their upcoming encounter with Manchester United. Klopp highlighted the importance of learning from past mistakes and maintaining focus throughout the game.
“Football is not that easy,” Klopp remarked. “We have to find a way to cause United problems. Against this opponent, in this stadium, we’d better play a really good game if we want something from it.”
With tensions running high ahead of the derby clash, Klopp’s appeal for mutual respect and sportsmanship serves as a reminder of the values that should underpin the beautiful game.
