Jurgen Klopp injected some humor into his post-match comments by joking about Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning goal that helped Liverpool secure a crucial win and reclaim the top spot in the Premier League table.
The Argentine midfielder’s exceptional strike from outside the box restored Liverpool’s lead against Sheffield United, with Cody Gakpo later sealing the victory. Klopp couldn’t resist making a playful remark about his interaction with Mac Allister after the match.
“We needed Macca’s wonder goal to turn it around. It is obvious, he is a super important player for us. After the game he said thank you, I said gracias. Hola as well with my Spanish. Wonderful player, wonderful boy and really happy for Liverpool we got him,” Klopp quipped.
Despite Mac Allister’s brilliant contribution, Klopp highlighted Darwin Nunez’s unconventional opener as his personal favorite of the night. The fortunate goal came when Blades goalkeeper Ivo Grbic inadvertently cleared the ball off Nunez, sending it into the net.
“We scored one of my favourite goals to be 1-0 up. We try a lot to press the opponent, it is rare you get that close,” Klopp commented on Nunez’s goal.
While Sheffield United managed to briefly equalize with an own goal from Conor Bradley, Mac Allister’s decisive strike and Gakpo’s late goal ensured Liverpool’s victory. Blades manager Chris Wilder acknowledged Liverpool’s quality and expressed pride in his team’s recent performances despite the defeat.
“Unfortunately we came up against a team that score late on and there’s that finish from MacAllister. He’s a World Cup winner and it was a world-class finish. But I think we have shown the consistency you’re looking for in the last three games,” Wilder remarked.
After the match, Wilder extended his best wishes to a member of Liverpool’s staff, expressing his genuine hope for their success in the title race. Despite the disappointment of defeat, Wilder’s gracious gesture reflected his sportsmanship and respect for Liverpool’s achievements.
