Jermaine Jenas, the former Tottenham and England footballer turned broadcaster, has been dismissed from his roles at the BBC following allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior. The BBC confirmed that Jenas is no longer part of their presenting team for The One Show and will also be absent from Match of the Day, two programs where he had been a regular contributor.
Jenas, 41, had been earning approximately £190,000 annually from the BBC. The broadcaster’s decision comes in the wake of reports that Jenas was involved in sending “unsolicited texts” to a female staff member. The situation led to the removal of a prominent mural featuring Jenas from the BBC’s Quay House headquarters in Salford.

The BBC announced Jenas’s departure, citing “alleged issues relating to workplace behavior,” specifically involving digital communications such as text messages. The broadcaster revealed that these issues were raised in recent weeks. According to MailOnline, rumors about these communications had been circulating among BBC colleagues before the announcement. The Sun reported that additional women came forward during the investigation, though there is no indication of illegal behavior by Jenas.
BBC’s Statement and Internal Communication
The BBC’s statement was succinct, confirming Jenas’s exit and noting that the decision followed allegations involving digital communications. Alex Kay-Jelski, head of sport at the BBC, informed staff of Jenas’s dismissal minutes before the news was made public. “Hi all, I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC,” the message read.
Jenas’s Response
Jenas, who was presenting for talkSPORT alongside Jermaine Pennant when the news broke, responded to the allegations with reluctance. “Look, I can’t really talk about it. I am not happy about it. But currently, I have to let the lawyers deal with it,” he stated. Jenas expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation and indicated that he would leave further comment to his legal representatives.
Impact on Other Roles
Despite the controversy, talkSPORT allowed Jenas to continue presenting but stated there are no immediate plans for him to host additional shows. A talkSPORT spokesperson said, “Given the array of serious allegations being reported. It’s for Jermaine as a private individual to address them in the way he chooses. There are no plans for Jermaine to broadcast as a presenter on talkSPORT in the immediate future.”
Jenas has also been involved in presenting Formula E coverage for TNT Sports. However, the broadcaster has yet to comment on his future with the channel. Jenas’s appearances on BBC Radio 5Live and Match of the Day 2 will cease following his dismissal.

Jenas, who has been married to Ellie Penfold for 13 years and shares three children with her, is reportedly receiving support from his family. Despite the allegations, Ellie, who recently vacationed with Jenas and their children in Marbella, is reportedly standing by him. Jenas has spoken to Ellie about the situation and is said to be “deeply unhappy.”
As Jenas’s professional future remains uncertain, his profile has already been removed from his agents’ website, MC Saatchi. This development marks a significant shift for Jenas, who had been seen as a potential successor to Gary Lineker on Match of the Day.
