🏆 India’s Premier Cup Competition
The Super Cup serves as India’s premier cup tournament, featuring teams from the nation’s top two divisions—the Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League. However, all past winners—Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, Odisha FC, and East Bengal—have come from the ISL 🏅.
Previously, the Super Cup champion earned a spot in the AFC Cup 🏆, but under the new system, the winner will now qualify for the inter-zonal play-offs of the AFC Champions League 2, the second tier of Asian continental football 🌍⚽.
🏟️ Bhubaneswar: The Home of the Super Cup?
The tournament replaced the Federation Cup in 2018, and organizers have held three of its last four editions in Bhubaneswar. In 2024, officials officially rebranded the tournament as the Kalinga Super Cup, further cementing its link with the Odisha capital.
🔥 The last edition saw East Bengal lift the trophy after an intense 3-2 extra-time win over Odisha FC, marking their first major title in 12 years.
🔄 Possible Format Change?
The 2024 edition featured a group stage followed by knockout rounds, but discussions are ongoing about a potential format change for 2025.
With Bhubaneswar once again hosting the tournament and the competition’s structure under review, Indian football fans can expect an exciting edition of the Super Cup! ⚽🔥
