Following discussions with Ajax for the head coach position, Graham Potter has expressed reservations about joining the struggling Dutch side, signaling his desire for specific conditions in his next role.
Despite being a target for Ajax, the 48-year-old, who has been without a managerial position since his departure from Chelsea last April, is taking a patient approach and is not rushing into any decisions.
Potter’s stint at Chelsea came after his successful tenure at Brighton, where he impressed before joining the Blues in September 2022. However, his time at Stamford Bridge was short-lived, with disappointing results leading to his dismissal after seven months in charge.
While some managers opt for punditry or other football-related ventures after leaving a job. Potter has remained relatively low-profile over the past year. Instead, he is focused on finding the right club with a clear strategy. Indicating his willingness to wait for the ideal opportunity.

Despite initial talks with Ajax, Potter has indicated that he is not currently interested in taking on the role of head coach. It is reported that he has declined to progress discussions with the club after an initial meeting.
Ajax’s pursuit of Potter comes amid a turbulent season for the Dutch giants. Who recently suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Feyenoord and currently sit sixth in the Eredivisie table. With coaching changes on the horizon for several top clubs, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich. And Barcelona, Potter’s availability has attracted attention from multiple quarters.
While Ajax continues to navigate their challenges under interim coach John van’t Schip. Potter remains focused on finding the right fit for his next managerial role. Prioritizing a club with a clear vision and strategy aligned with his own principles.
