Tammy Abraham, now plying his trade at AC Milan after departing his parent club Roma, has expressed his disappointment after being booed by Roma supporters despite scoring twice against them in the Coppa Italia.
In a dramatic first-half display at the San Siro, the former Chelsea striker hit a brace that helped Milan secure a 3-1 victory over Roma, sending his team into the semi-finals. However, the reaction from Roma fans was anything but warm.
“The boos from the Roma fans hurt me, because everyone knows what Roma meant to me. I didn’t celebrate when I scored, but that’s okay—that’s football,” Abraham said, acknowledging the sting of the hostility.
Abraham, who initially joined Roma under Jose Mourinho before eventually being allowed to leave for the season, has now found a new challenge at Milan. His goals played a crucial role in Milan’s progress in the Coppa Italia, as they aim to secure their first trophy since 2003. “I am very happy with the victory. We deserved it. But now we have to rest and be ready for Empoli,” he added.

The emotional complexity is not lost on Abraham. He previously explained his decision to leave Roma, stating, “It’s not that I lost confidence at all, but the fans know how important Roma is to me. Sometimes in life, you have to go to the next level and set the bar higher, and I thought this was the right opportunity.”
Abraham’s move to Milan has also seen former and current Chelsea players making an impact. João Félix, who arrived on a deadline day loan just months after his £45 million transfer from Chelsea, came off the bench to score the decisive third goal. Christian Pulisic also featured, while ex-Manchester City star Kyle Walker joined the fray after leaving the Premier League champions to seek a new challenge in Italy.
As Milan celebrates a significant step forward in their cup run, Abraham’s candid remarks highlight the personal cost of professional decisions and the passionate reactions that continue to define football.
