Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui Set for Manchester United Moves Ahead of Medicals

Matthijs de Ligt has confirmed his imminent move to Manchester United, traveling alongside Bayern Munich teammate Noussair Mazraoui to the UK for their medicals. The duo is set to join United after Bayern accepted bids totaling £51.5 million for both defenders. De Ligt, 25, and Mazraoui, 26, both have previous experience under United manager Erik ten Hag during their time at Ajax.

De Ligt, a long-term target for United, will strengthen their center-back options, following the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille earlier this summer. Mazraoui will add depth to the full-back positions, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to join West Ham for £15 million.

Speaking at Munich airport, De Ligt briefly mentioned the transfer, saying, “Noussair is waiting for me,” as the two boarded a private jet to Manchester. The Red Devils are hopeful that both players will be available for their Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday.

United boss Erik ten Hag remained tight-lipped about the arrivals after the team’s Community Shield loss to Manchester City, stating, “I can’t [give any updates]. When we have some news, we will announce it.”

Ten Hag did acknowledge the need to bolster United’s injury-hit defense, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between players and staff. He had previously expressed interest in signing De Ligt two years ago and holds a strong rapport with Mazraoui, praising his tactical growth and development during their time at Ajax.

As the duo undergoes their medicals, excitement builds around their potential impact at Manchester United under the guidance of Ten Hag.
