Harry Maguire has admitted that Ruben Amorim’s approach at Manchester United is a stark contrast to that of his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, and revealed that the new manager is “frustrated” with the team’s current struggles.

Amorim, who took over at Old Trafford in November following ten Hag’s dismissal, has faced difficulties in turning around United’s form. Despite his arrival, the club remains 14th in the Premier League, nine points adrift of fifth place as they prepare for a clash with Newcastle.

Under Amorim, United have won only two of their first five league matches, and Maguire acknowledged the challenges ahead. However, the England defender is confident that the 39-year-old coach has what it takes to lead the club back to the top.

“Ruben has come in and done everything he needs to do,” Maguire told Sky Sports. “He’s very demanding, and his style is completely different from the previous manager. It’s a total contrast in terms of what each manager wants and expects. The transition is going to be tough, but we all have great belief in Ruben and the coaching staff. We’re confident we can turn things around, and he knows exactly what steps to take to bring success to this club.”

Amorim, who guided Sporting CP to their first league title in 19 years, is known for his winning mentality. Maguire emphasized that the players share his frustration with the team’s poor performances.

“He’s a winner, so I’m sure he’s frustrated because he hates losing,” Maguire said. “We all do. *We don’t like losing, whether it’s in training or on matchday. We want to win games and make our fans happy. But this season hasn’t been good enough, and it’s frustrating for all of us.”

Despite the club’s struggles, Maguire has developed a positive relationship with Amorim. The centre-back also spoke about the possibility of extending his stay at Manchester United, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.

“I haven’t thought about it too much yet,” Maguire said after United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City. “I’ve got this year left with an option for another, and talks are ongoing. The conversations have been positive so far.”

Amorim has also praised Maguire’s qualities, particularly his ability to excel in a three-defender system. “Maguire is perfect when you play with three defenders,” he said. “He’s strong and good in the middle. Against strikers like Erling Haaland, you need someone like Harry to deal with long balls and physical battles. He’s been excellent, and so have all the defenders.”

As United look to turn their season around under Amorim’s leadership, Maguire remains hopeful that a positive change is on the horizon.
