Chelsea are reportedly willing to sell 21-year-old Renato Veiga despite the versatile midfielder’s relatively short time at the club. Signed from Basel for £12 million during the summer transfer window, Veiga has struggled to break into Enzo Maresca’s Premier League lineup, with most of his appearances limited to cup competitions. However, he did play the full match against Morecambe last weekend.
Interest from clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and Napoli has surfaced, with Borussia Dortmund said to have reached an agreement with Veiga over a loan move. Despite this, Chelsea prefers to sell the Portuguese international, rather than loan him out, according to The Telegraph. The club reportedly values Veiga at more than £20 million, a price they hope will yield a profit on the player, whom they signed only months ago.
Veiga’s departure could open the door for Chelsea to re-enter the transfer market, possibly looking for a left-back to support Marc Cucurella. Additionally, Veiga has expressed a desire to establish himself in the Premier League ahead of next year’s World Cup, adding more urgency to his situation.

Despite speculation surrounding Veiga’s future, head coach Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed that the player remains part of Chelsea’s squad.
“Renato is our player. He’s going to play, and he’s a player that we’re happy to have here with us,” Maresca said ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.
Maeresca also highlighted the importance of making decisions in the best interest of the club, player, and coaching staff.
“It’s not just what I think, or what the club thinks, or what the player thinks. It’s something that altogether we need to make the right decision for the club, the players, and the manager.”
Veiga isn’t the only summer signing linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also been mentioned in transfer rumors due to his lack of playing time this season. Maresca dismissed rumors surrounding the departure of Carney Chukwuemeka, stating there had been no contact regarding a move for the midfielder.
Chelsea’s transfer decisions in the coming weeks will shape the club’s squad depth, as they continue to navigate a competitive Premier League season.
