Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is set to return early to Carrington following Portugal’s dominant 5-1 victory over Poland in the UEFA Nations League, a result that secured top spot in Group A1 for Roberto Martinez’s side.
Portugal’s second-half performance was nothing short of spectacular, with the team scoring five goals after a goalless first half. AC Milan’s Rafael Leao opened the scoring, followed by a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and a goal from Chelsea’s Pedro Neto. Manchester United’s Fernandes also contributed with a sublime strike from outside the box to make it 3-0.
The United captain continued his strong form, registering five goals and two assists in his last five appearances for both club and country. Fernandes completed 83 touches with an impressive 89% passing accuracy, and also created three chances, contributing with three crosses into the box.
However, Fernandes picked up a yellow card during the game, meaning he will miss Portugal’s upcoming Nations League clash against Croatia next week. This suspension allows Fernandes to return to Manchester United early, where he will begin preparing for United’s next match under manager Ruben Amorim.

United’s Advantage
This early return boosts Manchester United, especially with many of their international players expected to return late. With United’s next match against newly promoted Ipswich coming soon, Fernandes’ early arrival gives him the opportunity to start work with Amorim before the game.
Portugal’s 5-1 win ensured they stayed unbeaten in the group, finishing top with 13 points, six clear of second-placed Croatia. As the international break concludes, Fernandes’ return will be a welcome sight for United, who continue their domestic campaign.
