Arne Slot is utilizing Liverpool’s pre-season tour to evaluate his players before making decisions on recruitment and retention. Following the rejection of a £12 million bid for Wataru Endo.
Jurgen Klopp signed Endo, the Japanese midfielder, only 12 months ago, and he became a regular at Anfield. Marseille made the offer to bring Endo to France, but new Liverpool manager Roberto De Zerbi turned it down.
Liverpool have yet to conduct any transfer business this summer, either in or out, as Premier League’s opening day approaches. Slot, hired from Feyenoord, is taking a calm and measured approach as he assesses the players he has inherited.
Last summer, Liverpool’s midfield underwent a significant transition with the departures of major names like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. The club spent over £100 million on replacements, including Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister.
Slot faces decisions on several players. Mohamed Salah is nearing a contract crossroads, and Darwin Nunez remains an expensive asset under scrutiny after two years at the club.
Slot acknowledged the high standards at Liverpool when he arrived, noting that the team fell out of the title race late last season but claimed the Carabao Cup and has a strong history of competing for silverware.
Slot said earlier this summer: “I think I said before that the first aim is to work with these players. Of course, it’s a disadvantage that many of them are not here yet, I mean the players that are already under contract. The positive about that is that it’s an important lifeline of club that youngsters come into the team as well. So it’s an ideal way of seeing them in these weeks, where they get lot of playing time as well.

“The standards are really high when it comes to bringing in new players because we have such a good team and such a good squad. Of course, Richard [Hughes] and I and other people as well are trying to improve the squad where possible. But that’s not that easy because we have so many good players.”
Liverpool has been linked with Anthony Gordon, who previously played on Merseyside with Everton. The Reds’ transfer activity is likely to focus on replacing players they offload, with the team currently having ample options in the final third.
