Cameroon were held to a surprising 0-0 draw against Eswatini in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday. Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo came closest to scoring for the Indomitable Lions when his curling shot hit the woodwork in the first half. Eswatini, ranked 159th in the world and 110 places below Cameroon, defended strongly and resisted pressure in the second half. Their goalkeeper, Mlamuli Makhanya, made a crucial save by tipping Vincent Aboubakar’s header over the bar.

Cameroon remain unbeaten after five games but could lose their top spot in Group D before hosting Libya next Tuesday. Manchester United’s Andre Onana had little to do in goal but almost scored a freak winner when his clearance bounced inside the six-yard box and went narrowly over the bar. Eswatini, who survived six minutes of stoppage time, secured their first point of the qualifiers.

Tunisia edged Liberia 1-0 to extend their unbeaten run and move five points clear at the top of Group H. Hazem Mastouri slotted in Ali Abdi’s cross in the fourth minute to give Tunisia an early lead. Liberia pushed for an equalizer, but goalkeeper Aymen Dahman made several important saves. Naim Sliti nearly doubled Tunisia’s lead, hitting the bar in the 40th minute. Despite Liberia’s efforts in the second half, Mastouri’s close-range header was denied by keeper Tommy Songo, securing victory for Tunisia in Sami Trabelsi’s first game back as head coach.

Madagascar Tops Group I After Dominant Win

Madagascar climbed to the top of Group I after a 4-1 comeback win over the Central African Republic (CAR). Hugo Gambor gave CAR the lead in the ninth minute, but Malagasy captain Rayan Raveloson turned the game around with two quick goals. Arnaud Randrianantenaina and Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa added to the scoreline, giving Madagascar a commanding win. New coach Corentin Martins, who previously led Mauritania to the Africa Cup of Nations, now has Madagascar dreaming of their first-ever World Cup appearance.
