Erik ten Hag has lauded Manchester United’s accomplishment of reaching the FA Cup final for the second consecutive season despite facing calls for his dismissal following their narrow semi-final victory over Coventry City.
Despite initially leading 3-0 against the Championship side, United’s lead evaporated as Coventry clawed their way back to force extra time. Ultimately, United prevailed 4-2 in the penalty shootout after a tense finish that saw a late disallowed goal for Coventry.
In the aftermath of the match, Ten Hag opted to focus on the positive aspect of reaching another FA Cup final under his management. “It’s a huge achievement,” he remarked. “A decade ago, a big Manchester United team only achieved the final three times. We do it twice in two years.”

However, Ten Hag did acknowledge the need for improvement, particularly in closing out games effectively. “We had control for 75 minutes and have to give Coventry a compliment for what they did in the last 15 minutes,” he noted. “We have to improve.”
Despite Ten Hag’s attempt to accentuate the positives, fans and pundits alike expressed concerns over United’s performance and called for his dismissal. Some took to social media to voice their frustrations, while others, like Jamie Carragher, suggested that the result might spell the end for Ten Hag’s tenure at United.
Nevertheless, United now have the opportunity to seek redemption in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, aiming to avenge their defeat in last year’s final.
