Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has expressed his belief that Arne Slot will “fail” as Liverpool’s new manager, following Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of last season.

Slot, who previously led Feyenoord to an Eredivisie title and a Dutch Cup victory, has been tasked with replacing Klopp. However, Yorke remains unconvinced of Slot’s suitability for the Premier League.

Speaking to Crypto Casinos, Yorke argued that no Dutch manager, aside from Louis van Gaal, has succeeded outside the Netherlands in recent years. He suggested that Slot has not demonstrated an ability to adapt to British football.

“Can anyone confidently say there has been a good Dutch manager outside of the Netherlands in recent years? I think Arne Slot will fail to impress, the same way Erik ten Hag has,” Yorke stated.

“The Dutch philosophy has been around for 25 years, but their national team isn’t even that good anymore. No Dutch manager has stood out to me, other than Louis van Gaal. Yet top clubs like Liverpool and Man United are signing these Dutch managers based on Johan Cruyff’s philosophy.

“Ronald Koeman is another who has struggled. Arne Slot did well in the Eredivisie, but you’d expect managers at top Dutch clubs to do well since there aren’t many teams in that league that can compete with the top. Slot hasn’t shown any proof that he can adapt to British football, and neither has any other Dutch manager.”

Despite Yorke’s doubts, Slot remains optimistic about building on Liverpool’s third-place finish in Klopp’s final season. Speaking to club media, Slot emphasized the importance of the team’s playing style and the hard work of the players.

“I think 82 points is a result of the playing style. The points you get are always a result of the way you play,” Slot said.

“I’ve seen many games already and many training sessions. The fans know we have some very good players. I’ve also seen a lot of training sessions, and this is where you bring the culture. The players are always working hard – as the fans see during the games.

“We have a real good team with real good players. We managed to stay on top for a very long time. But I think we all would love to see Liverpool a bit higher than third place. This is the challenge we face now – to build on what we have.

“I have all the confidence in this because of the players. We can add a few things where we hopefully can get more points than 82, which is necessary with the likes of Arsenal and City, to end up hopefully a bit higher than we did this season.”
