Josko Gvardiol, scorer for Manchester City, confessed to feeling ‘lost’ amidst Pep Guardiola’s tactics during their hard-fought 2-0 triumph against Nottingham Forest.
City’s left-back, Gvardiol, and substitute Erling Haaland found the net to secure a crucial three points in the Premier League title race. Despite the win, Forest managed more shots than City and posed a threat on several occasions.
One particular moment saw Guardiola frustrated with Gvardiol for venturing forward into the opposition’s penalty area, leaving his own position exposed. Ederson had to make a save eventually, prompting Gvardiol to seek clarity from Guardiola during halftime.
“At the beginning, there was one idea, then manager changed it after half an hour, and then again at halftime. He reverted to the original plan,” explained the Croatian to Sky Sports. “To be honest, I was a bit lost because I didn’t know exactly what he wanted from me. But he clarified things much better at halftime.”
Gvardiol’s headed goal from a Kevin De Bruyne corner marked his third goal in five games for City since his transfer from RB Leipzig last August. His defensive solidity has improved, and he’s now contributing offensively as well.

“I am delighted to score another goal in this tough match to help the team,” Gvardiol expressed. “But more importantly, I am happy about securing the three points. Now we have six days to rest, recover, and prepare well for the next game.”
Following his goal and assist in City’s 5-1 win over Luton, Guardiola praised Gvardiol’s performance, calling him ‘unbelievable’. “What a connection we have!” exclaimed Guardiola. “Josko’s prowess with his right foot is unbelievable.
When he attacks inside, he is a threat. He has become a much better player, and he doesn’t lose possession as he did initially. Incredible players [Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic]. Everyone is allowed to score, and that’s crucial.”
Gvardiol and his teammates will face Wolves next in their Saturday fixture at 5:30 pm. With Arsenal leading by four points, City, with a game in hand, aim to secure their fourth successive title by winning their remaining four matches.
