Disappointing scenes unfolded outside St James’ Park before England’s friendly win over Bosnia, as two supporters engaged in a physical altercation.
Footage captured by a bystander shows one fan grabbing another by the leg and pulling him to the ground. The fight quickly escalated, with the pair grappling on the pavement near busy traffic.
The incident left stunned onlookers, including a mother who questioned their behavior while walking with her family. Social media reactions ranged from sarcasm (“Best fans in the world”) to jokes (“Get a room”) and concerns about potential fan behavior during the Euros (“living up to the stereotype,” “Germany should be fun”).
Northumbria Police have yet to comment on the incident.
Despite the off-field drama, England secured a comfortable 3-0 victory with goals from Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Harry Kane. They face Iceland next in a friendly before kicking off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Germany.
On the pitch, manager Gareth Southgate expressed satisfaction with the performance. “Physically, it was a good workout,” he said. He acknowledged a slow start but highlighted England’s dominance as the game progressed.
The match also saw debuts for youngsters Jarrad Branthwaite and Adam Wharton, while captain Harry Kane came on as a substitute and scored his 63rd international goal.

Southgate remained focused on the positives, expressing his delight with the team’s overall performance and the lack of major injuries. He acknowledged selection dilemmas moving forward, a welcome problem for the manager.
England will hope to leave this fan incident behind them and carry the momentum from their win into their upcoming fixtures.
