Ruben Amorim Challenges Marcus Rashford to Prove Himself at Manchester United Amid Exit Speculation

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has urged Marcus Rashford to rise to the challenge of proving his worth at Old Trafford, dismissing speculation about the forward’s potential departure. Despite Rashford’s recent comments about being “ready for a new challenge,” Ruben Amorim remains committed to unlocking the player’s potential and believes the 27-year-old still has a vital role to play for the club.

Rashford gave his interview to journalist Henry Winter on Tuesday after Erik ten Hag dropped him for United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City, following his struggles with form over the past two seasons. With the forward reportedly earning £365,000 per week and his performances under scrutiny, Amorim has faced calls to consider selling him as part of a cultural overhaul. However, the Portuguese manager emphasized that Rashford is integral to his plans.

“This kind of club needs big talent, and Marcus is a big talent,” Amorim said during a press conference on Wednesday. “He just needs to perform at the highest level, and that is my focus. My goal is to help Marcus reach his best. We are better with Marcus Rashford—that’s simple.”

Amorim acknowledged the challenges facing the club and framed Rashford’s situation as an opportunity to shine.

“Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and this is the biggest challenge in football,” he said. “It’s tough, but I hope all my players are ready for it. I want Marcus to embrace this moment and show the levels he has reached in the past.”

Although Rashford’s comments sparked debate, Amorim played down their impact on the squad, insisting his players remain focused on their individual roles.

“The players are professionals. They focus on their own jobs and winning a place in the team,” Amorim explained. “As a former player, I know they are a bit selfish in that sense. Marcus’s words haven’t distracted the group.”

Amorim revealed that he had not yet spoken to Rashford about his remarks due to giving the squad a day off. However, he expressed confidence in Rashford’s commitment to the team.

“I haven’t spoken to Marcus yet, but he’s our player and ready for the next game. I want to focus on the present and bring out the best in him. That’s my key objective—to help him perform at his peak and contribute to the team.”

Rashford’s future may remain uncertain, but Amorim’s message is clear: he sees Rashford as a valuable asset and is determined to support him in overcoming his current struggles to regain his best form. For now, the focus remains on the task at hand—helping Manchester United climb back to the top.
