Martin Zubimendi, a prime target for Arsenal, has dropped a tantalizing hint about his future as Barcelona emerges as a contender in the race for his signature.
The Spanish midfielder has caught the eye of Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta as a potential reinforcement for their midfield. With Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s potential departures looming, Arsenal views the 25-year-old as a valuable addition to their squad.
Zubimendi’s €60 million (£52.6m) release clause makes him an attractive prospect for clubs seeking midfield reinforcements in the summer transfer window. Barcelona, under the leadership of Xavi, have also expressed interest in the Spaniard, as they aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
While Zubimendi maintains his contentment at Real Sociedad, he has acknowledged the uncertainties of football, hinting at a potential move in the future. He stated, “They are just rumors… I cannot say that I will play my entire career at Real Sociedad.”

Impressing notably in the Champions League this season, Zubimendi has elevated his profile, further enticing potential suitors. Despite Sociedad’s competitiveness in La Liga and Europe, the allure of playing for top clubs like Barcelona and potentially Bayern Munich, under the coaching of Xabi Alonso, presents intriguing opportunities for the midfielder.
As Arsenal faces stiff competition for Zubimendi’s services, they have also explored alternative midfield options, including Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz. However, with Villa likely to resist any attempts to secure Luiz’s departure, Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements may intensify in the coming months.
