Yuzvendra Chahal Aims for India Return, Will Play in England’s Domestic Tournament

India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is gearing up for a crucial stint with Northamptonshire as he strives to regain his spot in the national team. Chahal will play in Northamptonshire’s final Royal London ODI Cup match and will also compete in the remaining County Championship 2024 fixtures, totaling five first-class games for the side.

Northamptonshire’s head coach expressed excitement over Chahal’s inclusion, noting that his experience and wicket-taking ability would add significant depth and variety to their bowling attack. “Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills,” he said. “His record speaks for itself, and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack.”

This marks Chahal’s return to the English county circuit after his 2023 season with Kent, where he impressed by taking 9 wickets in just 2 matches.

At 34, Chahal has been away from the Indian team for some time, but this opportunity in the County Championship is crucial for his bid to make a comeback. Although named in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, he didn’t get a chance to play as the team chose other spinners. Chahal will be keen to make the most of this opportunity in England to showcase his form and skills, with the hope of earning a recall to the Indian side.
