Yusuf Pathan Joins Trinamool Congress, to Run for Lok Sabha Seat in Berhampore Constituency

Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan steps into a new arena as he ventures into politics, contesting from Berhampore constituency in West Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in May 2024. Aligned with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Pathan’s move reflects the party’s strategy as it launches its 2024 campaign, ‘Jonogorjon Sabha’, at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Grounds. Alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Pathan’s entry into politics marks a significant moment, setting the stage for a spirited electoral battle.

At the rally, attended by an impressive six to eight lakh supporters and numerous block-level leaders, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee galvanized the crowd, laying the groundwork for a dynamic election campaign. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Kirti Azad is gearing up to contest from West Bengal, contributing to the growing list of cricketers joining TMC’s political journey. Similarly, former India player Manoj Tiwary, currently serving as an MLA in Shibpur, Howrah, stands aligned with TMC, highlighting the increasing trend of cricketers transitioning into politics under the TMC banner.

Yusuf Pathan’s connection with Kolkata runs deep, having represented IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and contributing to their championship victories in 2012 and 2014. His remarkable performances, including a blistering 15-ball fifty in the IPL, have left an indelible mark on Kolkata’s cricketing landscape, further solidifying his bond with the city and its people.
