South Africa defeated Pakistan by 11 runs in the first T20I at Durban, thanks to George Linde’s all-round brilliance. After a three-year hiatus from international cricket, Linde made a resounding comeback, scoring 48 off 24 balls and taking 4-21 with the ball. His efforts earned him the Player-of-the-Match award, despite being denied a hat-trick by a review in the penultimate over. Pakistan, led by Mohammad Rizwan’s 74 off 62 balls, fell short in their chase of 184.

South Africa’s innings revolved around David Miller, who hammered a scintillating 82 off 40 balls. Coming in at 20 for 3, Miller showcased his class, counterattacking Pakistan’s bowlers with precise timing and raw power. He dismantled the spinners, hitting three consecutive sixes off Abrar Ahmed in the 10th over. While Shaheen Afridi (3-22) and Abrar (3-37) struck early and regularly, Miller’s dominance ensured South Africa posted 183 for 9.
Pakistan’s chase began poorly, with Babar Azam falling for a duck. However, Saim Ayub’s 31 off 13 balls injected momentum during the powerplay. After his dismissal, Rizwan anchored the innings but struggled initially, managing just 36 runs off his first 44 deliveries. A late onslaught, including 24 runs off Kwena Maphaka’s 17th over, brought Pakistan back into contention. With 19 needed off the final over, Maphaka redeemed himself by dismissing Rizwan, sealing South Africa’s victory.
Linde’s 19th-over blitz against Sufiyan Muqeem added 21 crucial runs, punishing Pakistan for mismanaging their bowling resources. This surge left Pakistan with too much to chase in the final overs. Despite Rizwan’s valiant effort, Pakistan’s sluggish start and lack of middle-order support proved costly. South Africa capitalized on their chances, securing a hard-fought win.
