Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named in Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy semi-final against Vidarbha, starting on February 17. This decision comes after his exclusion from India’s Champions Trophy squad. Jaiswal was initially part of the squad but was later replaced by mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

Jaiswal has had a mixed run recently, scoring 391 runs in nine innings during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, his ODI debut against England was underwhelming, where he scored just 15 runs from 22 balls. He wasn’t picked for the following two ODIs, adding to his recent challenges.
Despite missing the ICC event, Jaiswal’s return is expected to bolster Mumbai’s batting in the crucial knockout stage. Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, Mumbai reached the semis with a 152-run victory over Haryana in the quarterfinals at Eden Gardens.
Selector Patil emphasized the importance of Jaiswal’s inclusion, saying, “Jaiswal and Shivam Dube are non-travelling substitutes for the Champions Trophy. His presence will boost the team’s morale.”
Jaiswal’s last appearance for Mumbai was in a group-stage match against Jammu and Kashmir, where he scored just 4 and 26 runs. However, with a high-stakes semifinal ahead, he will be eager to make a significant impact and lead Mumbai’s charge toward the title.
His aggressive batting style and experience will be crucial as Mumbai eyes a spot in the Ranji Trophy final.
