Clash of Titans at Brabourne
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will face off in the WPL 2025 final at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on March 15. These two powerhouse teams have been among the most consistent in the league, setting up an exciting summit clash. While DC cruised into the final, MI took the longer route, playing three matches in four days to get here.

DC have been dominant throughout the season, making strong selections and executing well in most departments. Skipper Meg Lanning found form late, while Shafali Verma has been prolific at the top. Promoting Jess Jonassen to No. 3 has worked, but DC’s middle order (Nos. 4 to 7) has struggled, averaging just 17.50—the lowest this season.
MI’s squad is packed with firepower. While DC have excelled with the ball in the powerplay, MI have been even better, picking up 61 wickets at 22.68 compared to DC’s 50 wickets at 23.84. Nat Sciver-Brunt has been in top form, Hayley Matthews has contributed with both bat and ball, and Harmanpreet Kaur has maintained a high tempo. However, inconsistency in the middle order remains a concern.
With MI playing at their home ground—where they have lost only once in seven games—they have a slight advantage. However, DC have had a week-long break, allowing them to regroup. After two heartbreaking final losses, can DC finally break the jinx?
Team News: Will MI Shuffle Their Batting Again?

MI experimented with Amelia Kerr as an opener, pushing Yastika Bhatia down the order. While Yastika adapted well, Kerr struggled to capitalize on starts. MI reverted to their original order in the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants, but neither batter made an impact. Another reshuffle could be on the cards.
Left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque replaced Parunika Sisodia in the Eliminator but bowled just one over. It remains to be seen if MI will retain her for the final.
MI (probable XI): Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (capt), Amanjot Kaur, Yastika Bhatia (wk), S Sajana, G Kamalini, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail, Saika Ishaque.
DC, who last played on March 7, are unlikely to make changes.
DC (probable XI): Meg Lanning (capt), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, Jess Jonassen, Sarah Bryce (wk), Niki Prasad, Minnu Mani, Shikha Pandey, Titas Sadhu.
Players to Watch
Jemimah Rodrigues has had a tough season, managing only one fifty in six innings. She moved to No. 4 to accommodate Jonassen at the top but will be eager to step up in her hometown. However, her fielding has been exceptional throughout the season.
Hayley Matthews found batting form in the Eliminator, but her bowling has been outstanding. She leads the wicket charts with 17 scalps at an average of 15.88. In the 2023 final, her spell of 3 for 5, including Jonassen’s wicket, played a key role in MI’s title win at Brabourne.
Key Stats
- Sciver-Brunt needs three runs to become the first player to reach 1000 WPL runs and seven runs to score 500 in a single season.
- Rodrigues, Jonassen, and Shikha Pandey will be playing their fifth franchise league final together in two years.
- If DC win, Meg Lanning will have won every major international and franchise title except the WBBL.
With history on the line for both teams, expect a thrilling contest as MI and DC battle for WPL glory.
