'We Could Have Won…': Bangladesh Captain Shanto Optimistic After Close Loss to South Africa

Despite facing early and late setbacks in their innings, South Africa managed to post a competitive total of 113/6. Bangladesh, on the other hand, had their chances during the chase but ultimately fell short of the target.

Captain Najmul Shanto acknowledged the mix of nerves and confidence in the dressing room during the chase. He praised pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib for his impactful spell of 3/18, highlighting the importance of his early breakthroughs with the new ball.

“Everyone was nervous but confident while Jaker (Ali) was at the crease. It didn’t go our way, but Tanzim has really stepped up in the last few games, providing crucial breakthroughs. We should have closed this game out, but credit to South Africa for bowling well,” said Shanto.

Shanto also commended leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for his performances and expressed gratitude to the supporters for their unwavering backing.

“Rishad has been excellent, showing his skills in the recent games and practices. Finding a quality leg spinner has been a challenge for us over the years, and I hope he continues to progress. Our fans have always been supportive, and we hope for the same in the West Indies,” Shanto concluded.

Next up, Bangladesh will face the Netherlands at Arnos Vale, Kingstown on June 13, aiming to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
