New Zealand secured a 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka with a commanding 45-run victory in the second T20I. Chasing 187, Sri Lanka fell short at 141 despite promising starts from Kusal Perera (48) and Pathum Nissanka (37). Jacob Duffy’s exceptional 4 for 15 dismantled the visitors, earning him another standout performance in the series.
New Zealand’s batting was a collective effort. Mark Chapman (42), Tim Robinson (41), and Mitch Hay (41) contributed significantly. Hay, named Player of the Match, played a pivotal 19-ball knock that transformed New Zealand’s total from competitive to dominant. His late surge included four fours and two sixes, with 34 runs coming in the last two overs.

Sri Lanka’s struggles with strike rates and finishing persisted. At 72 for 2 after 10 overs, they appeared well-placed but collapsed under pressure. Their inability to score at more than 140 strike rate stood in stark contrast to New Zealand’s aggressive approach, with three players striking above that mark.
Duffy’s brilliance with the ball again proved decisive. His well-timed spells included crucial breakthroughs, starting with Nissanka and followed by Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana. Captain Mitchell Santner’s tactical use of Duffy in short, impactful spells further disrupted Sri Lanka’s chase.
New Zealand’s innings showcased controlled aggression. Their batters frequently rotated the strike and punished loose deliveries. Chapman and Robinson laid a strong foundation, while Hay’s explosive finish ensured the hosts posted 186. Sri Lanka’s bowlers, including Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana, struggled to maintain pressure.
The result emphasized New Zealand’s depth and composure, while Sri Lanka must address their middle-order collapses and improve strike rates to stay competitive.
