David Warner led Sydney Thunder to an eight-run victory over Melbourne Renegades, scoring his highest BBL score in 13 years. Warner’s unbeaten 86 off 57 balls guided Thunder to a total of 156 for 4. The victory, which came after a 734-day wait for a win at Engie Stadium, was propelled by a strong performance from Warner and a solid bowling display by Wes Agar, who took 4 for 32.
The Renegades, chasing 157, were restricted to 148 for 8. Despite Will Sutherland’s stunning catch to dismiss Sam Billings, the Renegades couldn’t recover. Sutherland’s one-handed catch, leaping five meters to his right, was the highlight of the fielding effort, but Billings’ exit left Thunder in a vulnerable position at 87 for 4 in the 14th over.

However, Warner took charge, scoring 43 runs from 19 balls after Billings’ dismissal. His inventive shots, including a switch-hit six and a scoop for four, propelled Thunder’s score. Warner’s knock was the highest since his return to the BBL in 2023.
Renegades’ batting faltered with early wickets. Josh Brown was dropped twice before being dismissed for 22, and Jake Fraser-McGurk fell for 26. Agar’s double strike broke the Renegades’ momentum, removing Mackenzie Harvey and Sutherland in consecutive balls. Laurie Evans, who made 40, was dismissed by Agar, effectively sealing the game for Thunder. With the win, Thunder moved to second on the BBL table, while the Renegades dropped to third.
