VVS Laxman Stays as NCA Head, Won’t Return to IPL in 2025

Former India batter VVS Laxman will extend his role as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for another year. His current three-year term ends in September 2024, and rumors circulated that he might join the Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor for IPL 2025. However, Laxman confirmed he will stay on at the NCA, dispelling any thoughts of returning to the IPL. Reports suggested Vikram Rathour might replace Laxman, but Laxman’s extension has now settled those rumors.

This news comes just before the opening of a new, state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The upgraded National Cricket Academy will feature three grounds, 100 pitches including 45 indoor turfs, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and advanced training, recovery, and sports science facilities. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has also announced that the new NCA will be accessible to non-cricketing athletes such as Neeraj Chopra and Manu Bhaker.

On India’s 78th Independence Day, Laxman celebrated at the NCA with a group of young cricketers, sharing a photo on Twitter to mark the occasion. Despite his busy schedule and multiple roles, including serving as interim head coach of the Indian team, Laxman’s commitment to the NCA remains strong.
