The Champions Trophy 2025 will begin on February 19, but Pakistan still hasn’t announced its official squad, fueling speculation. While all other teams have revealed their lineups, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains tight-lipped, allowing rumors about potential changes to circulate.

Qadir Khawaja, a sports journalist from Samaa TV, reports that Usman Khan and Aamir Jamal will likely be included in Pakistan’s squad. If true, Sufiyan Muqeem and Irfan Niazi could face exclusion. This would be a surprising move, especially since Muqeem performed well recently, including a four-wicket haul against South Africa in his only ODI appearance.
Usman Khan’s potential inclusion aims to bolster the batting lineup, particularly with uncertainty around Saim Ayub’s fitness following his injury in South Africa. Although Usman is yet to debut in ODIs, his List A record is impressive, averaging 75.66. Meanwhile, seam-bowling all-rounder Aamir Jamal, who has represented Pakistan across formats, could replace Irfan Niazi, whose performances in eight ODIs have been underwhelming.
The possible exclusion of Sufiyan Muqeem raises questions, especially since flat pitches in Pakistan could benefit his bowling. The PCB’s decision regarding him may significantly impact their chances on home soil.
Additionally, reports suggest Fakhar Zaman might make a comeback to strengthen the batting. With Babar Azam possibly opening, Usman Khan could slot in at number three if included. Pakistan selectors face a tricky task in finalizing the squad, balancing injury concerns and form. Their final call will be crucial for the team’s performance in the marquee tournament.
