Exactly a year after smashing the second-fastest 50-over century by an Indian, Gujarat opener Urvil Patel delivered a stunning performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He smashed a blistering 28-ball century against Tripura in Indore, recording the fastest T20 century by an Indian and the second-fastest overall in T20 history.

The fastest T20 century record belongs to Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who scored a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus in June 2024. Previously, Rishabh Pant held the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, achieving the feat off 32 balls for Delhi in 2018.
Chasing 156, Gujarat cruised to victory in just 10.2 overs, thanks to Urvil’s unbeaten 113 off 35 balls. His explosive innings featured seven fours and 12 sixes. The boundary-hitting display included three sixes over covers, three down the ground, four over midwicket, and one over square leg. Urvil targeted Tripura captain Mandeep Singh for 24 runs off five balls, Abhijit Sarkar for 26 runs off nine balls, Sankar Paul for 17 runs off four balls, and Manisankar Murasingh for 28 runs off 10 balls.
Interestingly, this incredible knock comes exactly a year after Urvil smashed a remarkable 41-ball century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Notably, that effort placed him second on the list of fastest List-A hundreds by Indians, just behind Yusuf Pathan’s 40-ball century. Moreover, the Vijay Hazare feat came a day after Urvil was released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2024 IPL auction, where, unfortunately, he went unsold.
Now listed among uncapped wicketkeepers for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Urvil’s latest heroics, therefore, could make him a highly sought-after pick in the upcoming season.
