Despite his stellar performance in this year’s IPL, Travis Head aims to limit his participation in T20 leagues to just two events per year, emphasizing his focus on Test cricket.
“This IPL season has been a return for me after quite a while,” Head told PTI. “For now, my primary focus remains on Test cricket, and I intend to continue prioritizing it.”
Head, who has excelled over past ten months, notably with centuries in both World-Test Championship final and the ODI-World-Cup final. Has been in top form for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. Accumulating 533 runs and forming a formidable opening partnership with Indian player Abhishek Sharma.
Despite gaining recognition as a sought-after T20 player, the 30-year-old intends to be selective about his involvement in franchise leagues while keeping Test cricket at the forefront of his career.
“After prioritizing Tests, I’ll assess my availability for other formats,” Head explained. “While I plan to return to the IPL next year, my commitments may vary. For instance, I’ll be playing in Major League Cricket in the USA immediately after the T20 World Cup this year, but next year’s schedule may differ.”
“Each year, I’ll weigh my options and decide accordingly. Next year, with Test cricket on agenda and tour of West Indies, I may limit my participation in other franchises.”
“Although in the future, once I’m done with Test cricket, I may explore more opportunities in franchise cricket. But for now, I aim to limit myself to a couple of franchises and prioritize Test cricket.”
Despite a hectic schedule over the past ten months, including overcoming a hand injury ahead of the ODI World Cup and the quick turnaround from IPL to the T20 World Cup, Head remains pragmatic about workload management.
“After the IPL, I’ll return home for a brief period before heading to the West Indies with my family. We’re fortunate to do what we do, and I aim to make most of it while staying in present moment.”
“In a few years, when I retire, I’ll have plenty of time to reflect. For now, I want to stay focused, enjoy the journey, and cherish every moment on the field.”
