Maheesh Theekshana grabbed what could be considered the catch of the tournament, adding to Shakib Al Hasan’s continued poor performance for Bangladesh.
As the match seemed to be going in Bangladesh’s favor, Shakib Al Hasan’s failure to perform once again led to a tense finish.
Matheesha Pathira delivered a shorter ball outside the off stump, tempting Shakib to go for the upper cut. Positioned perfectly, Theekshana, fielding at deep third, sprinted forward, keeping his eyes fixed on the ball. With a brilliant dive, he snatched the ball just inches above the ground.
The umpires reviewed the catch closely, confirming that Theekshana had indeed taken a stunning catch to shock Shakib and Bangladesh.
Despite Bangladesh’s messy chase, they managed to scrape past the finish line with just 2 wickets in hand. Sri Lanka consistently took wickets, but their batting performance fell short, resulting in the Lankan Lions’ second consecutive loss.
Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling efforts.
