The high-voltage T20 World Cup clash between Australia and Bangladesh faced an unfortunate interruption due to rain. Australia, chasing a modest 141-run target, raced to 64 for none in 6.2 overs before rain played spoilsport. With five overs completed, officials would use the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method to determine the winner if the game did not resume.

Australian fans had reason to cheer as their team was 29 runs ahead of the DLS par score of 35 when the rain hit. Therefore, if play didn’t resume, Australia would be declared the winners. Earlier in the match, Australia had reduced Bangladesh to a paltry 140-run total, thanks to a spectacular three-wicket haul from Pat Cummins. The ace speedster scalped crucial wickets of Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, and Mahedi Hasan, becoming the first bowler to take a hat-trick in this World Cup edition.

Towhid Hridoy was the most significant contributor for Bangladesh, scoring 40 runs off 28 deliveries. Adam Zampa also impressed with the ball for the Aussies, taking two vital wickets in his four-over spell.

The rain interruption initially led to concerns, but play eventually resumed. However, another passing shower halted the proceedings when Australia was 100 for two in 11.2 overs. Since the DLS par score was 72 runs, officials declared Australia the winner as no further play was possible.
