The 2024-25 Super Smash season for men and women will kick off on Boxing Day, December 26, at Seddon Park in Hamilton. The men’s competition will open with defending champions Auckland Aces facing Northern Districts, winners of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 titles. Earlier that day, Northern Brave will play Auckland Hearts to start the women’s Super Smash at the same venue.

Wellington Blaze, the reigning women’s champions, will begin their campaign for a ninth Super Smash title against Northern Brave on New Year’s Day in Hamilton. Meanwhile, last season’s men’s finalists, Canterbury Kings, will face Otago Volts in their opening match on December 27 in Alexandra. Central Hinds, the women’s finalists from last season, will kick off their campaign against Otago Sparks on December 31.
This year’s tournament will run from December 26 to February 2, featuring 64 games across ten venues in New Zealand. Each day will include men’s and women’s double-headers, with 32 games for each competition. For the first time in the tournament’s history, organizers have scheduled the final at a pre-determined venue. Basin Reserve in Wellington will host both the men’s and women’s elimination finals on February 1, followed by the grand finals on February 2.
NZC CEO Scott Weenink expressed excitement about the continued growth of the Super Smash, noting its increasing popularity. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our game to fans both new and old while highlighting our domestic teams and rising stars,” Weenink said.
New Zealand’s men’s white-ball series against Sri Lanka will run from December to January 11, coinciding with the Super Smash tournament. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s women are set to participate in the entire Super Smash season.
