The Cricket Discipline Commission has suspended a county cricket coach for six months after he admitted to misconduct with a player. The incidents, which took place during a pre-season tour in March 2024, led to a formal investigation by the Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC), which labeled his actions as serious misconduct. Consequently, the coach lost his professional coaching role.
The misconduct occurred on a pre-season tour involving both the men’s and women’s teams of an unnamed county. Concerns about the coach’s behavior prompted an investigation, and by May, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) formally charged him, citing breaches of the 2023 Professional Conduct Regulations. By July, the coach, referred to as “Coach A,” admitted to the charges.
The CDC kept identities confidential, with the player known as “Player 1” and the names of other witnesses undisclosed. This privacy was maintained to protect vulnerable parties. During the investigation, the CDC gathered evidence, including call logs, messages, and interview transcripts. However, since the coach admitted to the charges, the CDC chose not to release these details publicly.
Of the six-month suspension, the coach has already served three months, having been out of the sport since March 2024. The CDC has suspended the remaining three months for two years, depending on the coach’s compliance with professional standards. Additionally, the coach must complete training at his own expense, with no fines imposed due to the financial toll on him and his family.
In a statement, interim Cricket Regulator Director Dave Lewis emphasized the commitment to player safety and encouraged reporting of similar issues, ensuring confidentiality for those involved. The CDC noted the coach’s cooperation, acceptance of responsibility, and prior clean record, including recent completion of safeguarding courses and a DBS check.
