Sri Lanka secured their second consecutive victory in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, defeating West Indies by 81 runs in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. While West Indies showed slight improvement from their nine-wicket loss to India in the opener, they couldn’t match Sri Lanka’s dominance.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted the tournament’s highest total so far, 166 for 5. Contributions came from opener Sanjana Kavindi (39 off 36), captain Manudi Nanayakkara (41 off 31), and middle-order batter Dahami Sanethma (31 not out off 25). Adding to their cause were 36 extras conceded by the West Indies bowlers. This score topped Sri Lanka’s own 162 for 6 against Malaysia in their previous game.
Chasing 167, West Indies faltered early against left-arm spinner Chamodi Praboda, who dismantled the top order with her powerplay spell. She claimed 3 for 16, dismissing Asabi Callender, Naijanni Cumberbatch, and Jahzara Claxton. The early blows left West Indies struggling to keep up with the asking rate.
Captain Samara Ramnath tried to fight back, scoring 24 off 23 balls while opening the innings. However, only three other batters—Claxton, Amrita Ramtahal, and Kenika Casaar—managed to reach double figures. Aseni Thalagune supported Praboda with a tidy 2 for 16 as Sri Lanka bowled out West Indies for 90.
With two wins in Group A, Sri Lanka has taken a strong position in the competition. Meanwhile, hosts Malaysia and defending champions India face off later in the day to further shape the group standings.
