Gaby Lewis is determined to maintain Ireland’s momentum after their thrilling final-ball victory over England in Belfast on Wednesday. As the series shifts from 50-over matches to T20s for the Dublin leg of England’s tour, Ireland’s recent win has boosted their spirits.
Lewis Leads the Way

Lewis, who is captaining in place of Laura Delany, played a crucial role with a match-winning 72 off 56 balls in the third ODI. Despite a spirited comeback from England, led by Lauren Filer and Mady Villiers, Ireland’s lower order managed to secure a three-wicket victory. Although England won the series 2-1 after dominating the first two ODIs, the win in Belfast has uplifted the Irish squad, especially following their recent disappointment of missing out on the T20 World Cup.
Optimism for T20 Series
Ireland is now looking forward to the T20Is in Clontarf with optimism. Lewis believes that their recent success, even in a shortened 22-over game, provides confidence for the upcoming T20 series. “It’s huge,” Lewis said, reflecting on how the win has shifted their focus from the series defeat. She is excited to channel this positive energy into the T20 matches, aiming for a 2-0 series win.
England’s Resilience and New Faces
England’s new captain, Kate Cross, acknowledged Ireland’s superior performance in the third ODI but praised her team’s resilience. Despite the loss, Cross noted that the experience gained from playing in challenging conditions could be beneficial. She highlighted that the final-ball misfield by Hollie Armitage was a tough break but part of the game.
Changes in England’s T20 Squad
Looking ahead, England’s T20 squad will see new additions, including potential debutants Seren Smale and Charis Pavely. Katie George has also been called up to strengthen the seam attack, particularly as Mahika Gaur recovers from a side strain. Cross emphasized the need to manage Gaur’s return carefully, given the upcoming World Cup and other major series this winter.
