Left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson will miss the upcoming T20I series against Scotland and England due to a side strain he sustained while playing in the Hundred with the Oval Invincibles. New South Wales allrounder Sean Abbott will replace him. Abbott was initially picked only for the ODI squad but will now join the T20I team.

Johnson had a challenging Hundred campaign, managing only two wickets in six matches, although he did perform well in a game against the Northern Superchargers. Johnson, who debuted last year, could replace Mitchell Starc in the T20 side in the future. While Starc is resting from the T20Is, he will participate in the ODIs. Pat Cummins is missing the entire tour, but Josh Hazlewood is in both squads.
Abbott, with 15 T20I appearances and a record 165 wickets in the BBL, has also performed well in the Hundred, taking nine wickets in seven matches for Birmingham Phoenix. The T20I squad also includes Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, and Marcus Stoinis, alongside regulars like Tim David and Adam Zampa.
Johnson’s goal now is to recover in time for the domestic season with South Australia. Australia’s next T20Is will be against Pakistan in November, offering another chance for Johnson to make an impact. After the Pakistan series, Australia won’t play T20Is again until next July in the West Indies.
