Over the past few decades, women’s cricket in India has seen remarkable growth, evolving from humble beginnings to a prominent status in the sports world. After the 2017 World Cup, the Women’s T20 Challenge emerged in 2018. Now, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) takes place annually, attracting the biggest names in women’s cricket to India. The success of the team in ICC events and the emergence of players like Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Deepti Sharma as match-winners have significantly changed the dynamics of women’s cricket. In a landmark decision in 2022, the BCCI ensured equal pay for both men and women cricketers, marking a major step forward. Women’s cricket in India is undoubtedly on the rise.
