Team India remains undefeated in the T20 World Cup, yet a concern looms over star batsman Virat Kohli’s struggle for runs. In the group stage in New York, Kohli managed only five runs across three innings without reaching double figures.
In the Super 8 match against Afghanistan in Barbados, Kohli cautiously started his innings but was dismissed after scoring a run-a-ball 24.
Despite Kohli’s challenges, Brian Lara sees a silver lining in his innings, emphasizing the importance of his time at the crease during India’s Super 8 opener.
India dominated their group with wins over Ireland, Pakistan, and USA, continuing their form with a victory over Afghanistan. However, Kohli’s struggle has persisted throughout the tournament. Lara, optimistic about Kohli’s future, believes he will improve as the competition progresses.
“Scoring 24 off 24 balls may not be exceptional, but the crucial thing is that he spent time at the crease. India is closer to winning the trophy. I believe Virat Kohli will gain momentum as he moves to the Caribbean. He heads to Antigua next, where I expect him to excel and score runs,” Lara commented on Star Sports.
Kohli was India’s top scorer in the previous T20 World Cup and the team relies on him to perform in upcoming Super Eight matches, including the highly anticipated clash against Australia.
