Shreyas Iyer has been declared fit and will join India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Although he was named earlier in the 15-member squad, his selection was subject to medical clearance. After successfully proving his fitness in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shreyas has now received approval to return to international cricket and will link up with the team on Friday, just two days before the first ODI in Vadodara.

Shreyas has been out of action since October after suffering a serious spleen injury during an ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He was injured while attempting a catch and had to be hospitalized due to internal bleeding caused by a spleen laceration. This forced him to miss India’s home series against South Africa. However, after completing his recovery and rehabilitation, he returned to competitive cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored 82 and 45 for Mumbai, showing good form and fitness.
During his comeback matches, Shreyas also captained Mumbai in the absence of Shardul Thakur, further highlighting his leadership role and importance to the team. As India’s ODI vice-captain, his return adds both stability and experience to the middle order ahead of the New Zealand series.
Most members of the Indian squad reached Vadodara on January 7. The city will host its first men’s international match in over 15 years when India take on New Zealand at the newly built Kotambi Stadium. The venue has already hosted Women’s Premier League matches and women’s ODIs, making this a significant occasion for local cricket fans.
India’s ODI squad for the series includes Shubman Gill as captain, along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and several others, forming a balanced and experienced lineup for the contest.
