The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced its squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against Zimbabwe, but with some notable omissions. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman will miss the first three matches of the series starting May 3 in Chattogram.

BCB’s decision follows Shakib Al Hasan’s desire to play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as part of his preparation for international cricket after recovering from an eye issue. Mustafizur Rahman’s absence is due to the need for physical and mental recuperation after an extended period of playing in various tournaments, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sri Lanka T20 series, and the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). There’s a possibility of Mustafizur joining the squad for the latter part of the series, subject to his fitness.
New Faces and Returning Players
The squad includes uncapped opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim and the return of Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanvir Islam, Afif Hossain, and Mohammad Saifuddin. However, there are also some notable exclusions. The squad excludes opener Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mohammad Naim, Soumya Sarkar, Al-Amin Islam, and Taijul Islam from the previous T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Focus on Young Talent
The BCB is emphasizing the potential of Tanzid Tamim in T20 cricket and intends to further assess the performance of Parvez Emon. Soumya Sarkar’s absence is due to ongoing fitness concerns, with BCB planning to decide on his inclusion after discussions with the medical team.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the squad, which also includes Litton Das, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah Riyad, Jaker Ali Anik, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Shaifuddin. Saifuddin’s all-round capabilities are highlighted, with BCB planning to utilize him effectively in the series against Zimbabwe.
This revamped squad offers a mix of experience and exciting prospects. Cricket fans in Bangladesh will be eager to see how the team performs against Zimbabwe, particularly with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman potentially returning later in the series.
