MS Dhoni’s presence on the cricket field continues to thrill fans across India. The former Indian captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon is preparing for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), and a recent photo of him practicing has gone viral on social media. The tournament is set to begin on March 21, 2025.
Affectionately called “Thala” by CSK supporters, Dhoni has been the backbone of the franchise for over a decade. However, ahead of IPL 2024, he passed the captaincy to young talent Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite stepping down from the leadership role, Dhoni remains a key player in the team.
Interestingly, CSK has retained Dhoni as an “uncapped” player under a new rule that applies to those who haven’t represented their country in the past five years. The league reintroduced this regulation after discontinuing it in 2021, allowing teams more flexibility in player retention without affecting core retention slots.
At 43, Dhoni’s passion for cricket remains strong. Though he last played for India in the 2019 World Cup, he continues to enjoy his time in the IPL. After CSK’s unexpected group-stage exit in IPL 2024, Dhoni decided to continue as a player, determined to make the most of his remaining years in the league.
