Indian and Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in India, intending to pursue opportunities in T20 leagues worldwide, including legends competitions.

Expressing his decision, Shahbaz Nadeem stated, “I was considering this for a long time, and now I have decided to retire from all three formats.” He acknowledged the reality that he may not receive further chances in the Indian team and emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to younger cricketers.
Shahbaz Nadeem, aged 34, boasts a remarkable record in first-class cricket, claiming 542 wickets, including eight in two Test matches for India. Despite a brief stint in Test cricket, with his debut in 2019 against South Africa, he had to wait nearly two years for another opportunity, which turned out to be his last.
Having played for Delhi Daredevils from 2011 to 2018 and Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2019 to 2021 in the IPL, Shahbaz Nadeem garnered 48 wickets in the competition. Although picked up by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of IPL 2022, he did not feature in any matches.
Reflecting on his career, Shahbaz Nadeem expressed gratitude to his childhood coach, Imtiaz Hussain, for teaching him the art of bowling, and to S Rahman of Indigo Club for his unwavering support. Despite his satisfaction with his journey, he admitted feeling that he could have achieved more.
Nadeem’s retirement marks the third instance of a Jharkhand player, after Saurabh Tiwary and Varun Aaron (only in red-ball cricket), announcing retirement in the current Ranji Trophy season. Throughout his career, Shahbaz Nadeem remained a pivotal figure for Jharkhand, notably finishing as their leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
